Meet Ajida Begum, the president of Milanjyoti Poultry Group, hailing from Tezpur, Assam. Her journey is one of resilience, empowerment, and the transformation of lives in an underdeveloped region.
In the past, Ajida struggled to make ends meet with her small shop, unable to meet the household expenses. Her village lacked even the most basic facilities, amplifying the challenges she faced.
When Ajida discovered Drishtee, she seized the opportunity and joined forces with three other women, forming a poultry group. They underwent training, becoming the first poultry unit in their village and inspiring around 60 other women to engage in this transformative activity.
Now, their collective efforts bear fruit, as they earn a monthly income of 3000-4000 rupees. Ajida’s hard work allowed her to renovate her house from a humble Kuccha structure to a sturdy Pucca one. Another member of the group was able to purchase a mobile phone for her child, enabling uninterrupted education during the challenging times of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Ajida Begum and the Milanjyoti Poultry Group exemplify the power of unity and skill development. Their story showcases how determination, collaboration, and newfound opportunities can uplift not only their own lives but also those of their community members.
